Michael Belanger SHCPS Impact of Technology in Education 2008-2009 Microsoft Word K-2 Overview: This project was created to teach students the basics about what can be done in Microsoft Word and give them experience creating and editing word processing documents, and usage of our district server. Grade 3-5 Standards Covered: 1.1 1.2 1.3 1.4 1.5 1.6 Student Learning Outcomes: Students will · Demonstrate beginning steps in using available hardware and applications (e.g., turn on a computer, launch a program, use a pointing device such as a mouse). · Explain that icons (e.g., recycle bin/trash, folder) are symbols used to signify a command, file, or application. · Identify, locate, and use letters, numbers, and special keys (e.g., space bar, Shift, Delete) on the keyboard. · Recognize the functions of basic file menu commands (e.g., New, Open, Close, Save, Print). · Use a word processing application to write, edit, print, and save simple assignments. · Insert and size a graphic in a word processing document. Length: This project will take approximately 5 classes from start to finish.
Materials: - Teacher laptop with projector/or Interactive Whiteboard
- Laptops with Microsoft Office installed for students
- Network Access
Teacher Background/Resources: The teacher will need to know how to operate an Interactive Whiteboard and have basic knowledge of the use of Microsoft Word in order to be of assistance to the students. Also saving to the server and upload graphics/documents.
Required Student Knowledge: Basic typing skills and be comfortable using the laptop computers. Product and Performances: Interactive Whiteboard/or PowerPoint use with built-in activities to reinforce student knowledge. Assessment: Students will be assessed by creating a WORD document by the end of five classes. Technology skills required/developed: - Proficiency with Microsoft Word basics.
