Michael Belanger SHCPS Impact of Technology in Education 2008-2009 Microsoft Power Point Overview: This project was created in order to get students better acquainted with the features of Microsoft PowerPoint and give them the ability to create a PowerPoint presentation of their own on a topic of their choice. Grade 6-8 Standards Covered: 1.1 1.4 1.18 1.24 1.25 2.5 2.6 2.7 Student Learning Outcomes: Students will -Use features of a computer operating system (e.g., determine available space on local storage devices and remote storage resources, access the size and format of files, identify the version of an application). -Identify and use a variety of storage media (i.e., CDs, DVDs, flash drives, school servers, and online storage spaces), and provide a rationale for using a certain medium for a specific purpose. -Use Web browsing to access information (e.g., enter a URL, access links, create bookmarks/favorites, print Web pages). -Create a multimedia presentation using various media as appropriate (e.g. audio, video, animations, etc.). -Use a variety of technology tools (e.g., dictionary, thesaurus, grammar-checker, calculator) to maximize the accuracy of work. -Identify and discuss the technology proficiencies needed in the workplace, as well as ways to prepare to meet these demands. -Identify and describe the effect technological changes have had on society. -Explain how technology can support communication and collaboration, personal and professional productivity, and lifelong learning. Length: This project will take approximately 5 classes from start to finish. Materials: - Teacher laptop with projector/or Interactive Whiteboard

- Laptops with Microsoft Office installed for students
- Network Access
Teacher Background/Resources: The teacher will need to know how to operate an Interactive Whiteboard or PowerPoint and have basic knowledge of the use of Microsoft PowerPoint in order to be of assistance to the students. Required Student Knowledge: Basic typing skills and be comfortable using the laptop computers Product and Performances: Interactive Whiteboard/or PowerPoint use with built-in activities to reinforce student knowledge. Assessment: Students will be assessed with a Qwizdom test at the end of four classes. Technology skills required/developed: - Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint
