Keyboarding Lesson

Overview:

This project was created to teach students how to type using correct technique so they can become more efficient workers on the computer.

Grade 6-8

Standards Covered:

1.5       1.18

Student Learning Outcomes:

v  Demonstrate keyboarding skills between 25-30 wpm with fewer than 5 errors.  (For students with disabilities, demonstrate alternate input techniques as appropriate.)

v  Use Web browsing to access information (e.g., enter a URL, access links, create bookmarks/favorites, print Web pages).

Length:

This project is spread out over the trimester, with three separate assessments (one at the beginning, one in the middle, and a final one to assess overall progress)

Materials:

v  Laptops for students

v  Internet Access

Teacher Background/Resources:

The teacher will need to know how to help the students reach the assessments on the school website.

Required Student Knowledge:

Be comfortable using the laptop computers.

Product and Performances:

Students will be performing keyboarding assessments to track overall progress in typing skills.

Assessment:

Students will be assessed with an online assessment program located on the Keyboarding section of the school website.

Technology skills required/developed:

  • Proper typing skills
  • Proper posture while typing
