Your children will learn a wide variety of songs from many different cultures and styles. Each song that they learn will have a background, a story. It is important that your children learn about why a composer wrote that song, where it was written and who wrote it. Our music curriculum is written by Silver Burdett Ginn and includes thousands of song titles to chose from. All students in grades 3-5 will learn basic recorder skills and will be able to play some basic tunes on this instrument. Students in all grades will enjoy playing percussion instruments and learn rhythms to play with their classmates. They will even get a chance to compose some rhythms for their classmates to enjoy. It is important to explore music through cross-curricular activities. Every year we explore a wide variety of themes through music. This year, we will begin the year with a unit on our "Core Values" and will discuss ways to take what we have learned out to our community throughout the school year. Every class we also enjoy a cross-curricular unit on "Saving the Earth-Our Role". We will enjoy learning a wide variety of songs about recycling, and other topics related to "Earth Day" and will work, in conjunction with the art classes, on making instruments using recycled materials and making recycled art supplies. Classes will help identify ways to help our earth and will learn many songs related to this topic. This unit will culminate with an "Earth Day Celebration" at the Ecotarium in April when many students will perform the songs they have learned, students will play the instruments made from recycled materials and they will love displaying their art projects made from recycled materials too! Please mark your calendars to attend this exciting event! There are many music opportunities for your children at Seven Hills. Examples of these opportunities include:
