World Art and Music: Room

Rules and Procedures

Welcome to World Art and Music

Rules:

  1. Bring all necessary materials to class.
  2. Raise your hand to speak.
  3. Stay in your own space.
  4. Listen to directions the first time.
  5. HAVE FUN!!!

Procedures:

  1. Going out of the classroom: fill out a pass, sign out in the log book and go.  Sign back in when you return.  If you need to see the nurse, you must write down why you're going.
  2. Fire Drill: When the fire alarm sounds you stand up from your seats, line up in a straight line quickdly and quietly down the front staircase through the Gage Street entrance. (Note: Any student who talks or breaks the silence barrier will have his/her name written down and handled to Ms. Moore for further actions.)
  3. Quiet Minute: The most important purpose of a quiet minute is to relax, collect your thoughts and get ready to begin/end class.  It's your choice how to get in the "mode."
  4. Zero Noise: When zero noise is placed in the air everyone joins in, step whatever you're doing and PIN DROP SILENCE.
  5. Classroom Jobs: During the trimester, there will be jobs assigned to help me along the way.  They include:
  • Quiet minute: at the beginning and end of class
  • Passing out material: any books, handouts, etc.
  • Classroom Greeter:
  1. Shake the guest's hand while giving your name.
  2. Explain what class you're in and what you are learning today.

World Music Objectives

1. We will be learning about many different musical styles from the following countries:

September

  • Japan
  • China
  • Korea
  • Vietnam
  • Indonesia

October

  • Cuba
  • Puerto Rico
  • Brazil
  • Ecuador
  • Mexico
  • Peru

November

  • United States: Native American

2. We will be learning how to sing in different languages, playing different instruments and understanding many facets of each country's life.  It's our goal to explore how each country identifies itself through its geography, history, and cultural influence upon others.

Grading:

Grading will be based on the mastery of the material presented, along with group activities.

50% classwork

40% project

10% quizzes

* Please make sure to be prepared for every class. That includes your music packet, pen or pencil and you.  You many not go to your lockers to grab anything.  Be prepared for a phone call home if you decide not to follow the rules of the classroom.

* If you know anyone in your family or neighborhood that would be interested in sharing their culture with us please let me know so I can make the necessary arrangements with them

* Mrs. Rice and I are excited to be working with you and any questions, comments and/or complaints you might have feel free to see us. We'll be calling your parents in the next few weeks to touch base with them.
