1930's - 1940's : A Dramatic Exploration
The purpose of this unit is to enhance your understanding of the events and conflicts that led to, occurred during, and resulted from World War II. To accomplish this, we will: - discuss the conditions and events that caused civil unrest in Germany and identify how Adolf Hitler was able to establish himself in a position of power
- orally read plays to discover what life was like for the German citizens under the rule of the new Nazi government (focus on tone and inflection)
- discuss the motivation and rationale for Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor
- compare and contrast two different styles of plays
- act out a play, depicting the D-Day invasion that led to the eventual surrender of the Germans (focus on tone, inflection, and physical interpretation)
- work in teams to research another key event or element of World War II, draft our findings in the form of a ten-minute play, and stage a show to teach our classmates
