Welcome Back Eighth Graders!

Mr. Hoskins' ELA Class

A Little Bit About the Coming Year...

In the eighth grade, you will be presented with a variety of engaging activities, thought-provoking questions, and demanding challenges that will complement your strengths, build on your weaknesses, and prepare you to leave the Seven Hills Charter Public School as one of the most able-bodied readers and writers in Worcester!

Throughout the year, you will be introduced and reintroduced to a wide variety of writing styles that include short stories, novels, drama, poetry, and more!  You will read them, you will write them, and you will walk away with such a strong understanding of each that your ninth grade peers will bow down in utter awe of your brilliance!

Your interests will play a tremendous role in all that we do in the coming year.  Our persuasive writing unit will teach you how to build a convincing arguement as you work to sell an invention of your own design; our research paper will provide you with an introductory understanding of the MLA format as you delve deep to explore a topic that most interests you; our short story unit will teach you the elements of storytelling, will provide you with the tools to effectively paint a mental picture, then will set you loose to become the storyteller you've always dreamed of becoming!

All this is merely a glimpse of what you will encounter as you embark on an eighth grade journey that will build you up and set you free with all the tools you need to be an expert reader and writer!

We anxiously look forward to making this journey with you!

While I would have liked to develop a more flowery web page of glitz and glam, I was somewhat restricted using this platform.  In any regard, this page will hopefully be practical and useful to you as members of our community.  We will work diligently to keep this page regularly updated with links to help you with your course assignments and to stimulate your minds!  Please let us know if there is anything more that you would like to find here.
